Red Hat In The Garden

Red Hat In The Garden

Some people’s junk is another’s treasure. Mom handed me a red hat-shaped brooch she’d found in a junk box saying, “See what you can do with that.” After a bit of pondering I remembered that a local bead shop had just acquired a large selection of lucite flowers. I thought, I can do something with that. Using an open weave I worked the background resembling a basket, then built the handle using a tubular herringbone stitch in red, purple and gold, ending with the brooch as the clasp.
